This memorial day weekend took on quite a different meaning for us. We were invited up to Safford by some friends of ours to honor their son who was killed in Vietnam. These were the clouds over the cemetery as we drove in. It was overwhelming to see all the American flags placed on the graves of those who gave their lives so we can be free.

These pictures can not even begin to describe the spirit that was there. Roughly seventy five people gathered together and celebrated the life, dedication and bravery of Walter Bruce Foote. A picture was painted of the day he died, a very vivid picture. I can't even put into words the gratitude we felt for a soldier that gave his life before Mike and I were even born, so we could be free.

The firing squad did the honorary twenty one gun salute. We ate breakfast at a small restaurant by the hotel before the ceremony, all the boys that performed the twenty one gun salute were there eating breakfast at the table next to us. It was very humbling to watch them and realize that all of them were young men.....boys, with wedding rings on...Those are the boys that fight so we may have the freedoms we enjoy.

This was a new experience for all of us, not just our kids. It's at these moments in life that I realize how much we take for granted the country in which we live, and the lives that are lost because of that freedom. This memorial day we learned a valuable lesson. We are greatly indebted to the men and women and their families left behind for the legacy of being an American and for the great price that is paid for that blessing.

Thank you SO MUCH for such a wonderful patriotic tribute on Memorial Day! You reminded me of how much gratitude I should be feeling for our armed forces, especially today!
